The pair of earrings which Marilyn Monroe wore a in a Hollywood film premiere, in 1955, got auctioned at $185,000.
In a statement on Sunday, Julien’s Auctions said that the lady wore this jewelry when she first attended the opening of “The Rose Tattoo“. Monroe herself did not appear in the film, which was based on a play by Tennessee Williams.
A 20% commission of the auction house was also included in the price. The auction house usually does not disclose the name of the buyers. Yet it was learned that it was a foreign buyer.
The sale was a part of the two-day auction at Hollywood memorabilia held at Julien’s Beverly Hills gallery on Friday and Saturday.
A special lighter used by Humphrey Bogart was also sold for $19,200. Furthermore, an antique Pontiac Firebird which was possessed by David Hasselhoff was bought for $152,600.
