ATLANTA – Ryan Zimmerman, Nationals third baseman, injured his right thumb last night in the game against the Braves and will not be able to play for the next four to six weeks. Zimmerman has played 10 games in Major League Baseball (MLB).
Despite this tragedy, the Nationals still have many talented infielders in their camp who are fully capable of leading their team in the absence of Zimmerman. Anthony Rendon might probably shift to his natural position, i.e third, as a replacement. Also, Danny Espinosa can prove to be the right choice as a short term solution at the keystone.
Manager, Matt Williams, states that Zimmerman will not need any surgery, but the recovery time is around 4-6 weeks.
