(CALIFORNIA) – On Wednesday, Facebook reported its financial results for the first quarter of the year 2014. The results appear quite impressive but if we compare it to Apple’s revenues of USD 45.6 billion for the same period, results do not look inspiring. However, the increase in stock prices of Facebook proves the other way around.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO and founder of Facebook said, “Facebook’s business is strong and growing, and this quarter was a great start to 2014. We’ve made some long term bets on the future while staying focused on executing and improving our core products and business. We’re in great position to continue making progress towards our mission.”
Facebook has registered growth not only in revenues but also in user statistics throughout the world. The total revenue for Q1 was estimated to be around USD 2.50 billion. This indicated a 72% increase when compared to the last year’s Q1; around USD 1.46 billion. Moreover, the advertising revenues accounted for 90.8% of the total revenue, symbolizing a 82% increase compared to the same period last year.
Of the advertising revenue, the mobile advertising revenue was approximately 59% this year as compared to last year’s 30%.

- 1.01 billion mobile monthly active users as of March 31, 2014
- Approximately 81.2% of our daily active users are outside the U.S. and Canada
Facebook has been consistently moving in an upward trajectory in terms of its users. It has been recorded earlier that Facebook has more than 1 billion users. However, the question of their active users has now been answered. According to the Q1 results of this year, Facebook has nearly 1.28 billion Monthly Active Users (MAU). This figure depicts a 15% increase, compared to the same period last year.
Furthermore, the Daily Active Users (DAU) have impressively increased to 802 million. This also represents a significant increase of 21% compared to last year. Surprisingly, about 75% of the Daily Active Users are mobile users emphasizing Facebook’s attention on mobile over the preceding period.
