(LONG POND) – Kyle Larson is not shifty. This is not considered a good thing in Stock Car Racing.
Larson, also a Sprint Cup rookie, attracted a great deal of attention with some splendid runs this year. He also secured a 10th-place standings in the points. However, he is now having some problems adapting to gear shifting which is required is the race cars of NASCAR. He has messed up some transmissions understanding the trade. The most recent incident led to some “corrective” action from the superiors of Larson at Chip Ganassi Racing.
Moreover, his team provided him a straight-drive Chevrolet Camaro to drive across Charlotte, so that he can get some more practice passing through the gears.
According to Larson, “It seems like I’m probably the worst shifter of all time in a stock car. It’s been kind of embarrassing missing a lot of shifts. I have to drive a stick shift around town. The team’s making me. So … yeah, it was funny at first. Now it’s not very funny. Just got to work on that some. That’s my biggest worry going into this weekend (at Pocono Raceway) is making sure I don’t miss any shifts.”
He said that Ganassi-supplied street Chevrolet Camaro is the one any child willing to impress his counterparts would always appreciate.
Furthermore, he said, “It’s really loud. I feel like one of those 16-year-old kids who just got their license, reviving it up and listening to the engine pop. I can’t wait to get through all the tracks that we have to shift at a lot and get back in an automatic.”
While in the meantime, Larson has also purchased his first house, a delightful structure in Mooresville, North Carolina. Larson tweeted a photo of his house, and afterwards claimed, “It’s not as big as it looks”. He plans to shift in just after some remodeling.
