(BRAZIL) – On Wednesday, three matches were played in the FIFA World Cup 2014. In the first game, Australia was up against Netherlands, both teams played their second matches of the mega tournament. On the basis of the previous performance, and courtesy an excellent start in the tournament, beating defending champion Spain, Netherlands were considered as the hot favorites for this match. It was a close encounter, however, the Dutch team managed to win the match 3-2. It is to be mentioned here that it was a must win game for Australia in order to stay in the tournament. However, after this defeat, they are now eliminated from the World Cup.
The second game was played between Spain and Chile of Group B. Much like Australia, it was also a do or die game for Spain, to ensure their presence in the tournament. However, Chile did not allow Spain to score even a single goal, while it itself scored two goals and won the match 2-0. With this defeat, Spain has also been eliminated from the World Cup, with one game to play.
In the third game, two teams from Group A, Cameroon and Croatia were up against each other. Both teams lost their opening games of the tournament against Mexico and Brazil respectively. Croatia proved that it was a far better team than Cameroon after a comfortable win 4-0. Croatia’s forward Mario Mandzukic scored two goals for his team.
Meanwhile, FIFA has denied the statement of Diego Maradona, in which he claimed that he was not allowed to enter the stadium in which Argentina was to play its opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. In that game, Lionel Messi scored a superb goal that led to the win of Argentina.
Moreover, FIFA has also banned players from wearing Beats by Dry headphones at the World Cup.
There are three matches to be played today in the FIFA World Cup. The first match will be played between Colombia and Côte d’Ivoire of Group C at 13:00 local time.
Estadio Nacional, Brasillia(Brazil)
In terms of performance, Colombia has won two of its last five matches, including the victory against Greece in the opening game of the tournament, while three games have been drawn. On the other side, Côte d’Ivoire has also won two of its last five games, including their latest win against Japan in the opening game of the World Cup. It has lost once, while two games ended in a draw.
