Tiger Woods has now announced that he will be playing in the Quicken Loans National (his own tournament) in Maryland next week, after he suffered an injury that put him off the field for four months. Woods, the 2009 and 2012 tournament champion intends to compete at the 2014 Quicken Loans National at Congressional Country Club, from June 23-29.
The 38 year old Woods had a back injury in March, due to which he missed both US Open and The Masters. The 14-time major champion and three time winner of the US Open title, underwent a surgery in which a pinched nerve was fixed in his back. Due to his injury, he also lost his top position in the world rankings to Adam Scott.
On his Facebook page, Woods said:
After a lot of therapy I have recovered well and will be supporting my foundation next week at the Quicken Loans National. I’ve just started to hit full shots but it’s time to take the next step. I will be a bit rusty but I want to play myself back into competitive shape. Excited for the challenge ahead.
He surely has made a timely return, as the British Open is upcoming after three weeks.
