(ISLAMABAD) – Supreme Court of Pakistan has approved the Protection Pakistan Ordinance Bill 2014. The bill will be in effect for 2 years. The bill was presented in the National Assembly today by Minister of Science & Technology, Zahid Hamid.
Bill’s main purpose is to prevent terrorism and to improve law and order situation of the country. According to the bill, the government will have a right to arrest any suspicious person without any warrant. Special courts can also be established on Ad hoc basis by the government, whenever felt necessary. Judges of special court will be able to give 60 days remand notices for criminals termed guilty. Anyone who is found involved in any sort of terrorist activities can be sentenced to a minimum 20 years of imprisonment.
The ordinance is yet to be disclosed in full to the general public.
