Head to head, these two teams have confronted each other 21 times. Brazil has been successful in 12 games, while Germany only managed to win 4 times. Five games were drawn. Moreover, out of the 63 goals scored in those games, Brazil scored 39, while Germany scored 24.
Brazil have just suffered a big blow, as their key player Neymar, who was so far the most consistent in scoring goals for his side, missed out the rest of the World Cup because of an injury. He will certainly be missed in today’s game. However, Brazil still have another very fine player, David Luiz on their side, who played an important role in his team’s win against Colombia and Chile. On the other hand, Germany also have some well performing players in their team, like Thomas Muller, who has so far scored four goals in the tournament, and Mats Hummels, whose goal against France led to the victory of his team.
Meanwhile, FIFA has also rejected the appeal of Brazil’s captain, Thiago Silva, in which he requested to allow him play in the semifinal against Germany on Tuesday. A statement from the Disciplinary Committee of FIFA said that there was “no legal basis” to overturn the yellow card of the defender.
Moreover, on Monday, the Brazilian Police arrested Ray Whelan, FIFA World Cup’s Hospitality Director at Copacabana Palace Hotel, after he was accused of scalping World Cup tickets. It has been estimated that the illegal sales of tickets brought in around USD 445,000 per game. In a statement, the company said that it would “be fully assisting the police in investigating the matter.”
