(CALIFORNIA) – On Tuesday, Apple and IBM collectively announced that they have forged an exclusive global partnership to “transform enterprise mobility” via a new range of business apps, thus bringing the data and analytic expertise of IBM into iPad and iPhone.
Ginni Rometty, the President, Chairman and CEO of IBM, said, “This alliance with Apple will build on our momentum in bringing these innovations to our clients globally, and leverages IBM’s leadership in analytics, cloud, software and services.”
Rometty also said, “Mobility-combined with the phenomena of data and cloud-is transforming business and our industry in historic ways, allowing people to re-imagine work, industries and professions.”
It was announced that Apple and IBM will work together to introduce over 100 industry-related enterprise solutions that would include indigenous apps built specifically for iOS.
In a statement, Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, said, “iPhone and iPad are the best mobile devices in the world and have transformed the way people work with over 98 percent of the Fortune 500 and over 92 percent of the Global 500 using iOS devices in their business today. For the first time ever we’re putting IBM’s renowned big data analytics at iOS users’ fingertips, which opens up a large market opportunity for Apple. This is a radical step for enterprise and something that only Apple and IBM can deliver.”
IBM’s new MobileFirst for iOS solutions will be designed in a mutual collaboration that will make use of the unique strengths of both companies. It will provide a new range of business apps that will target particular industry issues and opportunities in healthcare, retail, travel, banking, telecommunications, transportation, and insurance, and will be available in this fall and early 2015.
This platform will provide the services required for an end-to-end enterprise capacity, from workflow, analytics and cloud storage. As part of its agreement, IBM will also sell iPads and iPhones with industry-related solutions to the worldwide business customers.
Moreover, AppleCare for Enterprises will assist the IT department and end users 24/7 from the award-winning client support group of Apple, with an on-site service provided by IBM. On the other hand, IBM is also soon introducing its MobileFirst Supply and Management for the devices, and operation and management services for both iPad as well as iPhone with the option of leasing it out.
Last month, Apple announced the release of iOS 8 and Swift at its annual Worldwide Developer Conference. These would be available at some time later this year. Swift is its biggest release after its launch of App Store, and provides the users with incredible features, and developers with tools to create new apps. With Swift and IBMs new collaboration, Tim Cook surely has an astounding vision in to the future of Apple, Inc.
